The Moon Goddess of Chinese mythology, wife of the legendary archer 后羿hòuyì. She is said to have stolen an elixir of immortality and flown to the moon. This form was originally a replacement for 姮娥héng'é to avoid a naming taboo, and is now often written as 嫦娥cháng'é.
