Nian Army, an insurgent group that led a major peasant rebellion against the Qing dynasty in North China from 1851 to 1868. Originally derived from the 捻子niǎnzi or 捻党niǎndǎng, they fought alongside the 太平天国tàipíngtiānguó before being defeated in Shandong.
