A mythological water spirit; in Chinese folklore, she is identified as 女英 nǚ​yīng, the daughter of Emperor Yao and wife of Emperor Shun, who drowned herself in the Xiang River after Shun's death.
The Ladies of the Xiang
Title of a famous poem from the "Nine Songs" in the 楚辞 chǔ​cí, traditionally attributed to Qu Yuan; it is a ritual song written from the perspective of the male Xiang River spirit longing for his consort.
