- Deng Xi (545-501 BC), a philosopher and rhetorician of the state of Zheng during the late Spring and Autumn period who is traditionally considered the first lawyer in ancient China; he founded the School of Names and compiled the 竹刑 zhúxíng criminal code on bamboo slips.
