Rainbow and Feather Garments Dance

霓裳羽衣舞 níchángyǔyīwǔ
Rainbow and Feather Garments Dance
A famous Tang Dynasty court dance that depicts a misty, celestial realm of goddesses. According to legend, the music was adapted by Emperor Xuanzong from the "Brahman Melody" presented by a regional governor. The dancers wore ornate costumes and held colorful ribbons to simulate flight. The original music was lost after the An Lushan Rebellion, though fragments were later recovered during the Southern Tang period.
