黃
Review: The top component is not directly 黃. According to 季旭昇, he considers 𦰩, the sound component of this character to be composed of 火 over 黃. See 季旭昇《說文新證》 pg. 912 for more information regarding the composition of this character and its sound component.
Changed fields: components
Original meaning: burn a person alive as a sacrifice
Pictograph of burning a tortured person (𦰩) over fire (火) as sacrifice, now written as 熯. The meaning later shifted to "bake", "dry out", and "clay".
Due to historical stylistic changes, this component is less similar to 火 than it was in ancient scripts.
