A group of seven non-conformist scholars and writers in the 3rd century who rejected the strict social rules of the court to pursue freedom and philosophy.

Originally referring to the gathering of the [[竹林七贤|竹林七賢|zhu2 lin2 qi1 xian2]]; later used to describe an intimate friendship or the pure, disinterested bond between high-minded scholars.
