The historical name for Taipei's oldest district, [[万华|萬華|wan4 hua2]]. The name is a transliteration of the Ketagalan word for canoe, as many canoes gathered there for trade. It was renamed during the Japanese occupation using the phonetic equivalent [[万华|萬華|wan4 hua2]].
