Collective name for five famous collections of short stories published during the Ming Dynasty. The "Three Words" refer to the works edited by Feng Menglong: 喻世明言 yù​shì​míng​yán, 警世通言 jǐng​shì​tōng​yán, and 醒世恒言 xǐng​shì​héng​yán; the "Two Slaps" refer to the works by Ling Mengchu: 初刻拍案惊奇 chū​kè​pāi'àn​jīng​qí and 二刻拍案惊奇 èr​kè​pāi'àn​jīng​qí.
