Pali; an ancient Indo-Aryan language used as the primary language for the scriptures of Theravada Buddhism. Originating in India around the 3rd century BC, it was transmitted to Sri Lanka and later recorded in writing, eventually spreading to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos along with the religion.
