毛竹 máozhú moso bamboo
A large species of bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) with thick, tough walls used as timber for furniture and construction. Its shoots are highly valued as a food known as "winter bamboo shoots". Also known as 南竹 nánzhú or 孟宗竹 mèngzōngzhú.
