A general term for various regional opera styles popular during the Qing dynasty, such as 京腔 jīng​qiāng and 秦腔 qín​qiāng. Known for their popular appeal, simple language, and loud, diverse instrumental accompaniment, they were often collectively referred to as 乱弹 luàn​tán.
