Shache County (also known as Yarkant or Yarkand) located in Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang. It was historically known as 叶尔羌 yè'ěr​qiāng and served as a major trade hub on the Silk Road connecting to the Pamir Mountains and Central Asia.
